About Our School

The school we sponsor is located in the heart of Mathare, Kenya's second largest informal settlement. It was founded in 2000, born out of the desperate need to provide education and food to hundreds of disadvantaged children living in the slums, where even the most rudimentary necessities are a luxury.

Currently, the school accommodates 527 students, offering both primary and secondary education. Children living in the Mathare are surrounded by crime and violence. Our school offers them with a safe-space; more than just classrooms, our premises serve as a community hub that provides food, safety, and guidance on many critical issues like HIV-AIDS awareness, and the risks of drugs, gangs, gender-based violence and teenage pregnancy.

The school was founded from modest origins as a grassroots organisation, spearheaded by dedicated volunteers. It was funded almost entirely by parent donations, which were extremely limited. That meant the budget was far too tight, so they couldn’t afford to pay teacher salaries. They relied entirely on volunteers from the local community to teach, and in return they would give them a daily meal and a modest token of appreciation each month.

Thanks to your generous support, we can aim to enhance the educational standards significantly. With adequate funding, we can provide these children with an outstanding education, empowering countless young minds to realise their utmost potential, equipping them to navigate towards prosperous and gratifying futures.
